As its name suggests, orangeries were first created for the purpose of growing citrus trees.

In climates such as ours, the humble orange needs all the help it can get, and in the 17th century orangeries started to become fashionable and decorative constructions. (Indeed, the largest in Europe, was created for Louis XIV at Versailles, for his 3,000 orange trees.)

Today, Paul Bloom designs oak frames for orangeries that simply make a lovely addition to a home. The seasons can do what they will; inside, you can sit ‘in’ your garden, snug and enclosed in even the deepest of winters.
